Soundproofing against loud sounds, especially those with plenty of bass is problematic. The first problem is that the building industry uses standards meant for speech (called Rw values – you may see things like an Rw55 wall described). These values are calculated for frequencies between 100Hz and 3150Hz, which is of course useless if the problem is a subwoofer or a bass drum. Soundproofing against these type of sounds requires specialised building materials like Green Glue.
